Meet Dr. Gerardo (“Jerry”) Moncada
From Personal Pain to Professional Purpose
Dr. Jerry’s path to chiropractic care began with his own experience as a patient. During his senior year of high school, a weightlifting injury left him hobbling and struggling with severe lower back pain. “I walked in, hobbling, all hunched over, and I walked out feeling like a million bucks,” he recalls of his first chiropractic visit. That pivotal moment sparked his interest in helping others experience the same relief.
He earned his degree in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa in 2018, where he also became a certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). After working in cardiac rehabilitation and personal training, Dr. Jerry pursued his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in November 2022.
A Holistic Approach to Healing
Dr. Jerry is an expert at combining multiple soft tissue release methods such as Active Release Technique, Graston Technique, Cupping and Dry Needling methods with chiropractic joint manipulation.
Humble and always patient-focused, Dr. Jerry is passionate about helping others heal. “I think of myself as more of a conduit. People come in with an injury, and I educate them and provide some sort of care.” Rather than taking credit for healing, he empowers patients to understand their role in recovery, emphasizing that lasting wellness happens through education, proper care, and the body’s remarkable natural healing abilities.
His background in sports and exercise science allows him to connect with both athletes and non-athletes, understanding the physical and mental aspects of pain. Dr. Jerry takes time to listen to patients’ frustrations and meets them where they are in their healing process.
Beyond the Clinic: Music, Movement, and Joey
Outside the practice, Dr. Jerry has quite a few diverse interests. He plays electric guitar in a metal band, working toward recording original music alongside covers. His musical talents extend to the dance floor, where he takes salsa and bachata classes twice weekly, finding rhythm connections between his guitar work and Latin dance steps.
Dr. Jerry also enjoys spending time with Joey, his long-haired dachshund, exploring beaches, and taking walks around town or in the woods.
From Small Town Iowa to Chicago
Originally from Postville, Iowa (population 2,000), Dr. Jerry brings small-town values to his Chicago practice. His family runs a local grocery store, and he’s the only family member to pursue a career in health care. He maintains strong ties to his roots as a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes and San Francisco 49ers fan.
