Volleyball

For a beach volleyball player, Chicago's North Beach is an amazing sight to see in the summer: nets as far as the eye can see.  For indoor volleyball players, there are a number of clubs throughout the city that participate in recreational and competitive games.

There are many types of injuries that occur in volleyball.  Ankle sprains are among the most common (especially an inversion ankle sprain).  This is usually caused from an awkward landing from a block or a spike and is more common in indoor volleyball.  A common foot injury that occurs in beach players is a sprain of the first metatarso-phalangeal joint (the big toe), more commonly known as 'Sand Toe'.

Shoulder injuries are also a common complaint.  The dynamic motion of the spike can often lead to injuries or muscle imbalances that cause a rotator cuff syndrome.
