Patellar Disorders

Patellar tendonitis, patellar tracking disorder, and chondromalacia patella are all common knee problems experienced by runners and other athletes that involve strenuous and repetitive leg activity.  All of these disorders present similarly, with pain and/or swelling around the knee cap.

There are many possible causes for knee dysfunction.  Often it is due to a muscular imbalance of the quadriceps, particularly a weakness of the oblique fibers of the vastus medialis muscle.  A muscle rehab program is needed to restore this muscle function.

Uneven forces pulling on the knee-cap can also be created from foot over-pronation problems.  The best solution to this problem is through the use of Custom Fitted Orthotics.  At Active Body Chiropractic, we perform custom fittings using Sole Supports orthotics.
