When Tiger Woods burst onto the golfing scene, the sport was almost certainly changed forever.  Although he was certainly not the first golfer to incorporate physical fitness in the world of the PGA, his ability level, strength, and speed have made physical training for the golfing athlete the standard.  For golfers of all ability levels, physical training can not only prevent injury on the course, but can help increase performance.

A great deal of the injuries in golf deal with the low back.  Almost always, this can be attributed to faulty technique and “over-swinging.”  Strains of the lumbar musculature are most often seen. Ironically, bending over to pick up the ball probably uses more of the low back musculature than a properly executed golf swing! Other injuries are commonly repetitive in nature.  Medial epicondylitis or “golfer’s elbow” is one of the most famous.
