Golf
When
Tiger Woods burst onto the golfing scene, the sport was almost certainly
changed forever. Although he was certainly not the first golfer
to incorporate physical fitness in the world of the PGA, his ability
level, strength, and speed have made physical training for the golfing
athlete the standard. For golfers of all ability levels, physical
training can not only prevent injury on the course, but can help
increase performance.

A
great deal of the injuries in golf deal with the low back.
Almost always, this can be attributed to faulty technique and “over-swinging.”
Strains
of the lumbar musculature are most often seen. Ironically, bending
over to pick up the ball probably uses more of the low back musculature
than a properly executed golf swing! Other injuries are commonly
repetitive in nature. Medial
epicondylitis or “golfer’s elbow” is one of the most famous.
