Dancing

The grace and beauty shown by the highly trained dancer often overshadows the intense physical demand placed on the athlete.  Although the style and types of dance are as varied as the skill levels of the participants, the injuries that may incur are common to all.

Most forms of dance require a great deal of agility and flexibility.  For this reason, muscle strains can be a common injury due to the dynamic positions required in the routines.

Dancers who perform on point or use jumps in their routine increase their risk of injury to the foot and ankle.  Inversion sprains to the ankle, muscular injury to the peronii muscles, and plantar fascitis of the foot may be common.

Joint sprains of the wrist may result in routines that include supporting the bodyweight of oneself or a partner with the hands.
